what a goal by ronaldo!
though he has this gl bin and cocky face, he does know how to handle the ball with his feet rather well.
i didn’t manage to catch a snapshot of the goal
but it was a long-ranged goal from midway between the half line and the semi-circle of the penalty box.

porto lost their captain, luchon, due to an injury.
and apparently, it was due to a slip while he was kicking the ball.
the commentators (cheena ppl because i was watching the match using tvu player – on the channel “Shanghai Sports”) kept saying that the field was slippery and kept laughing at players as they slipped while trying to kick the ball (e.g. andersen, ronaldo,..).
it’s entertaining at first as u hear things u nvr hear before while watching soccer, but it gets a little bit irritating when the commentators go “好球！” so many times.

at one point, the commentators even said something like “maybe porto purposely increased the power of their sprinklers to make the field more slippery so as to make the man utd players slip – thus affecting their performance.”

Sadly, Singapore couldn’t beat China in ping pong finals (like duh actually) but at least they still got silver medal.
It’s the first team in olympic history that they organize this team ping pong event, and SG is 2nd leh. zai sia.
haha. zhang yining is really my ou xiang.

oh. and the panda mascots (they call it the FRIENDLIES. LOL) for Beijing 08 are damn cute, especially jingjing
(but not the cutest thing in my heart. HAHAHA)

i think this is like the most intense soccer match i’ve ever watched (though i slept thru 2nd half and extra-time)
The game was 1-1. with 2 goals being scored in the first half so i didn’t miss any goals. i’m good.
Then the halftime break came and my bro and i squeezed onto my bed. LOL.
AND somehow, i woke up in time for the penalties. and it’s really JUST in time that kind.

Ronaldo missed the first penalty shot by either team at the 3rd attempt.
And it was 4-4, with terry to take the last penalty.
the captain of chelsea. and he hit the shot wide.
In the end, Anelka is the one who missed, his shot got parried away by Van Der Sar.
6-5 to MANCHESTER UNITED
(i wanted to make it sound more exciting one but i’m sure the feeling of reading this blog post cannot beat the feeling of watching the penalties at 5.30am in the morning)

And then, the rest was history liao.
and Ronaldo was super emotional. lol.
OH. did i mention? drogba got sent off towards the end of extra-time.
Loser.

in the end, it was the two people who led their team to where they are now that miss the penalties. Ronaldo and Terry.
Well, life’s fair i must say.
They have had their fair share of glory and highs this season. Just that Terry will go away feeling more a loser than Ronaldo.

The penalties kinda made me more awake than i previously was.
Maybe i should just stay awake for another 2 hours and be like a zombie for the rest of the day.
hahaha.
